How do I restore photos from a Photo2Video archive?

There are two restore paths: decoded video frames and original files kept in a local archive package.

Open a recognised archive

In the restore workflow, select an archive video saved in Photos. The app reads its embedded archive information and presents the available images. An arbitrary video is not a Photo2Video archive and does not carry the same map.

Choose what to put back

Select a small set first and use the export action to save frames to Photos. Review the result in your library. Images exported from HEVC are decoded and re-encoded; they should not be described as untouched original files.

When the originals are available

Byte-exact restore uses the original files retained in the app’s local package. That package must still exist. An archive video copied to another device can support frame export, while the original package remains on the device that created it. Deleting the app removes its local packages.

Does keeping only the video preserve exact originals?

No. Exact original files require the local originals package or a separate backup.
